After that, guard against system creep: name a security contact at each site so no one adds readers outside the standard.

We map which doors can be offline, and when. Most work happens during normal working hours, but doors that cannot be left unsecured, such as main entrances, pharmacies, or server rooms, may need after-hours or shutdown-window work, which carries additional charges. We also confirm ceiling access, who provides lift trucks for high work, and who tells staff what is happening. Those details are what usually stretch a schedule.

A fail-safe lock releases when it loses power; a fail-secure lock stays locked. Doors on egress paths and doors that must release on fire alarm are generally fail-safe or use hardware that always allows free exit, while storage and IT rooms are often fail-secure. Getting this wrong is one of the most common mistakes we see. Your AHJ decides what is acceptable, so we raise it during design, not after the inspection.

Usually more than people expect. Controllers and IP readers need network ports, often on a dedicated VLAN, and PoE devices need switch capacity checked against the full power load, not just the port count. The server needs a home, backups, and someone who owns patching. IT may want Active Directory sign-on, and HR should own who is authorized and how badges come off at termination. Bring both in early.

Pricing follows a scope review or site assessment and is based on the number of devices and services required. The biggest variables are door-hardware condition, cable distance to the nearest IDF, and whether work must happen after hours. If the actual device count grows during the project, the price grows with it, so a thorough survey up front protects your budget. Time-and-material work is billed at then-prevailing rates.
