Commercial Fire Protection and Safety

Fire protection spans several trades. IPS works on the electronic side: fire alarm and detection systems and their links to access control, video, and communication systems. Sprinklers, suppression, and extinguishers are handled by fire protection contractors. We assess what you have, design and install fire systems, and plan how they interact with the rest of the building. Code compliance review is included only when the quote says so.

Yes, and the interfaces need as much care as the devices. On alarm, specified access-controlled doors release for egress, which depends on correct fail-safe or fail-secure hardware at each opening. Video can be set to bring up cameras near an alarming zone. We document each interface in a matrix of what triggers what, then test every one during acceptance with your team and, where required, the AHJ.

Yes. An obligation-free system assessment reviews your fire alarm panel, devices, and interfaces with doors and other systems, and identifies gaps and risks. It is a good first step when you inherit unclear records, change occupancy, or plan a renovation, so upgrades can ride along with the building work. If you need a formal code compliance review, we include it in the scope explicitly; the fire marshal or other AHJ has the final say.

Yes. Support Programs include two preventative maintenance visits per contract year, performance analysis, priority response for remote and onsite support, a documented system history, and pre-recorded training sessions. Keep a single list of who maintains what, including fire alarm, sprinkler, suppression, door hardware, and access control, with contract dates. In our experience, gaps between trades cause more missed maintenance than any single system does.

Fire alarm signals are monitored by a supervising station that you contract; IPS does not monitor fire alarms or contact the fire department. Separately, our Network Operations Center watches the health of the security systems we support, such as video servers and connected devices, and we fix issues it finds under your maintenance contract. Ask your monitoring provider how it handles trouble and supervisory signals, not just alarms.

Carefully and with a plan. Fire alarm work can put part of a system out of service, and your AHJ may require a fire watch or notification while it is impaired. We phase work by area, schedule shutdowns with you, and make sure your monitoring provider and staff know when the system is under test. Standard work is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays; after-hours scheduling carries additional charges.

Pricing is based on the number of devices and the services in the quote. Interfaces add up: each door release, elevator recall, or HVAC shutdown connection is work to design, install, and test. Variable-scope work is billed on a time-and-material basis at prevailing rates. We price after a scope review or site assessment.
