Door contacts cover perimeter openings, glass-break detectors cover large glazing and motion detectors cover interior routes. Dual-technology motion sensors are worth the extra cost in warehouses and spaces with heaters or moving air. Zone server rooms and other high-value rooms separately; an outdated system can miss an after-hours entry there.

The most useful links are arming tied to the access control schedule, so a building isn't left disarmed after the last badge out, and alarm events that call up nearby cameras. Typical causes are staff who don't know the exit delay, old user codes, motion detectors aimed at heaters or hanging signs, and doors that don't latch.
